Last weekend, the creator of Cydia Jay Freeman was noted for a loud release. The developer, known on the Web as Saurik, has released the Cydia Impactor utility, which allows you to return the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch with the jailbreak installed to the official firmware without having to restore the device via iTunes. We wrote detailed instructions showing how to use Cydia Impactor properly.

Often, users of Apple mobile devices with jailbreak installed are disappointed in the "free" iOS. The reasons for this are the slow operation of iOS, incomprehensible crashes of applications downloaded from the App Store and other problems that never appeared on the official firmware.

Similar problems arise due to tweaks from Cydia, or rather, inept handling of them. Often, users install from the store of alternative applications beta versions of tweaks, or some unknown means from not the most experienced developers. After which the “brakes” begin.

Even more often, users of the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch simply want to “tear down” the jailbreak for the subsequent smooth transition to the new version of iOS. At the same time, I want to save all the files and not bother with restoring the firmware via iTunes.

In any of these cases, the Cydia Impactor utility can now help, allowing you to return the official firmware to your Apple mobile device.

Attention! Using Cydia Impactor involves deleting all files from your mobile device, so be sure to back up via iTunes or iCloud.

How to recover iPhone / iPad after unsuccessful jailbreak?

In this video I will show you how to restore iPhone/ iPad after bad jailbreak. I will be glad to answer all.

Note. If you are familiar with the update procedure, the publisher of iPhones.ru is sincerely happy for you and asks for the opportunity to use the manual for users who need it.

Before starting the update, I would like to make a little clarity for those who are faced with the need to update the i-device for the first time:

Update - the process of downloading and installing the latest version of the operating system with the preservation of all data.

Restore - update and reset all settings to factory defaults (state of a new clean iOS device with the latest current firmware version).

Restore from copy - restore settings, download applications, notes and contacts to the state of the last backup created without changing the current firmware version.

Very often, out of inexperience, users who use the Cydia store and all the benefits of jailbreaking, suddenly decide to abandon the ability to install applications and tweaks from third-party stores, become “on the right path” and upgrade to “clean” iOS. A simple update through the Settings Menu - Basic - Software Update - Download and update in a few minutes may end in perpetual reboot. Take your time, but slowly sort it out!

Update device without jailbreak.

Conditions: the device supports the latest firmware, stable internet is connected, the jailbreak procedure was not performed.

Follow all steps in sequence and the upgrade process will be “dry and comfortable.”

Point 1. We pay attention to compatibility.

At the time of the update, make sure that your iOS device supports the latest current firmware version. You can always find out about compatibility on the official website of the company and this is the only reliable source. As for iOS 8, it is compatible with it:

iPhone: from 4S and later; iPad mini: all models; iPad: from iPad 2 and later; iPod: iPod Touch 5gen.

If everything is successful and your device is supported, go to step 2

Point 2. We update iTunes. Free up space.

Before any update, Apple strongly recommends that you upgrade to the latest version of iTunes. This can be done both from the application itself (iTunes - Updates), and by downloading it again from the official site with a further replacement of the old version.

Before upgrading, make sure that you have enough free space on your Mac or Windows computer. Its size depends on the size of the backup you plan to create. The required minimum is about 8-9 GB (106 applications on my iPhone pulled 6 GB). Make sure there is enough free memory on your iOS device. The memory status can be found by going to Settings - General - About this device

If the iPhone, iPad or iPod is less than 400-500 MB, it is highly recommended to remove several applications or videos, increasing the amount of free space to at least 1.5 GB

All these memory freeing operations will help to avoid problems and sudden errors during the upgrade.

Point 3. Backup and recharge.

Remember, always, always back up your data! Whether you plan to upgrade your iPhone or not, accustom yourself to periodic backups. This will save your nerves and a state of deep frustration when the iOS gadget refuses to load further than the white apple.

Connect the iOS device to the computer, open the icon with its image and select where to create the copy. If you have enough remote disk space in iCloud cloud storage, feel free to create a copy in it. Periodically, I highly recommend making new offline copies on your computer.

Selecting Create a copy now, decide whether you need copies of installed programs or whether you will start your life from scratch. The size of the backup with applications can be significantly larger than without it.

Depending on how busy your iOS device is, how many cups of coffee you have to drink depends on the short time. To kill two birds with one stone, create a backup in both iCloud and on the computer. This will take a little longer, but with further recovery, you can return the spent minutes of waiting.

Before proceeding to the key stage - updating iOS, make sure that your gadget is more than 50% charged. This figure is more likely symbolic and many experienced users are also updated from 20-30%, but to predict how actively your device will eat battery No one can update time.

Item 4. Update.

Here, the paths of many users diverge. Someone prefers a more stable and reliable update "on the cord" (at the time of the first few hours after the release of the new firmware this option is preferable), someone is updated "over the air".

Each option has the right to life, and subject to all the above points, there will be no problems with the restoration.

To update “over the air”, go to Settings - General - Software Update and download the latest current firmware version.

When updating using iTunes, just connect the iOS device and select Update

Point 5. Restoring purchases and applications.

After a successful update, iPhone will offer to select a system language and connect to a Wi-Fi network. The next item is data recovery.

If you have good Internet speed, you can recover data from a copy of iCloud. If not, choose a copy of iTunes. The second option is somewhat faster. The iOS device will immediately require a connection to iTunes, and the application itself will go into recovery mode.

By default, the most recent backup will be selected. Select the Restore item and wait for the process to complete. Do not disconnect the cable until the application and data are completely transferred. After the recovery from the backup is completed, the device will reboot and will require you to log in to your Apple ID account

Log in, select the mail and phone number to use iMessage. You will be greeted by the familiar SpringBoard with native wallpaper and icon placement. Now the iOS device will download all applications from a digital backup. Wait until the download is complete and the device is fully operational.

Updating a device with a jailbreak.

For the opportunity to be not like everyone else: to install tweaks and download free applications, you will need a small fee - a slightly different update procedure. However, it is not much more complicated.

Attention! If your iOS device succumbed to the jailbreak procedure, in no case do not update by air or through a regular update via iTunes. There is a high probability of getting an eternal reboot or recovery loop.

Point 1. We are preparing an iOS device.

Surely after using the iPhone or iPad with a jailbreak on the device, there are many several applications downloaded from alternative stores. It is strongly recommended that you delete them.

For further operations, repeat all the operations listed in steps 1 - 4. When creating a backup, be prepared for possible errors. All that remains for you is to kindly agree that iTunes cannot transfer the purchase, or purchase a paid version of the application (do not dissemble, because the jailbreak helped save several tens of rubles :)

Point 2. We restore and update the device.

So, the backup copy was created and the time has come to “return everything as it was”. We will reset the smartphone to factory settings. Select Restore iPhone. ITunes will require you to disable the Find iPhone function. You can do this on the iOS device by opening Settings - iCloud - Find iPhone and turn off usage.

Apple will once again warn about the possible loss of applications that have not been ported and will offer to download the latest version of the operating system. We agree and set off for another cup of coffee.
