The change in one number relative to another can be represented as follows:

increase = B - A

decrease = A - B

In this formula, A - denotes the old number, B - new

A decrease or increase in the number is always calculated relative to the old number.

To express the difference between the old and the new value as a percentage of the initial (old) value, there is the concept of percentage change, which can be expressed by the formula:

% increase = 100 x (B - A) / A

% reduction = 100 x (A - B) / A

In this formula: A is the old number, B is the new one.
